Bring Down The Sky Mass Effect Mission Walkthrough

14 October 2026 | 46

The Bring Down the Sky expansion in Mass Effect introduces a high-stakes scenario where Commander Shepard must prevent an asteroid from colliding with a populated colony. Located on Asteroid X57 in the Asgard system, this mission presents tactical combat challenges alongside significant narrative choices. Navigating the terrain, disabling thrusters, and handling hostile encounters efficiently requires a structured strategy to ensure success.

Starting the Mission and Navigating Asteroid X57

To initiate the assignment, set course for the Exodus Cluster and enter the Asgard system using the Normandy's galaxy map. Once you land the Mako on Asteroid X57, your main objective is to locate and deactivate three massive fusion torches altering the asteroid's orbit. Traversing the surface requires careful driving to avoid hazardous defense turrets and minefields.

Disabling the Three Fusion Torches

Approaching each fusion torch facility demands a mixture of vehicle combat and on-foot engagement. Clear out the heavy turrets guarding the exterior perimeters before entering the facilities to disable the engines. Inside each building, expect resistance from Batarian soldiers, drones, and heavy combat units that require strategic cover usage.

Handling the Final Confrontation and Key Decisions

After shutting down all three thrusters, proceed to the main facility for the final showdown against the Batarian leader, Balak. You will face a critical moral choice involving saving hostages or confronting Balak directly. Choosing to save the hostages allows Balak to flee, while targeting him forces a difficult combat scenario that impacts narrative outcomes in later games.

Completing Side Objectives and Collecting Rewards

While on Asteroid X57, players can also complete optional side assignments such as locating missing engineers and disarming proximity mines. Finishing these extra tasks yields additional experience points, credits, and valuable high-tier equipment. Speaking with Chief Engineer Simon Atwell upon concluding the operation allows you to select customized armor or specialized omni-tools as your final reward.
